Welcome!

Jar Star provides skills and tools for modern home food preservation.

Who

Lindsay Kearns learned home food preservation techniques from her parents, who had her assist with their annual tomato sauce canning marathons from a young age. Despite those labourious beginnings, her love of putting up seasonal foods grew with her into adulthood, where it nests well into her general obsession for all things do-it-yourself. These days, she is sharing her passion for successful freezing, dehydrating, fermenting, and canning of amazing delicious foods, through workshops & presentations, and selling her fermentation supplies at community events.  Her engaging demonstrations and classes have been attended by hundreds of people over the past 5 years. Read more about Lindsay here.

Why

Preserving food is an important part of food sovereignty. By extending the length of time we can enjoy eating a fruit, vegetable, or meat, we’re working towards affordable, safe, culturally-appropriate nourishment… And as a bonus, it’s very fun!
